Remembering Tony Scott

Written By Unknown on Monday, August 20, 2012 | 9:07 PM

The sad news that director Tony Scott took his own life by jumping off a Los Angeles bridge has shocked Hollywood and his fans around the world.  Whatever the reason for his suicide (there seem to be questions now about the validity of the reports that he had inoperable brain cancer), his death at the age of 68 is still a stunner and we grieve his loss. All we can do is look back at the cinematic legacy he's left behind.  Here are the big movies in his impressive filmography.

The Hunger - Before the current vampire trend, Scott made the bloodsuckers sexy in this 1983 flick starring Catheirne Deneuve, David Bowie, and Susan Sarandon.

Top Gun - This was one of Tom Cruise's early blockbusters. It also starred Kelly McGillis and Val Kilmer.

Beverly Hills Cop II - While it may not have made as much money as the original, this Eddie Murphy sequel, co-starring Brigitte Nielsen, still raked in the dough.

Revenge - Kevin Costner plays the lead alongside Anthony Quinn and Madeleine Stowe in this independent flick that Scott directed.

Days of Thunder - Tom Cruise returned to work with Scott in this great looking race-car movie. The cast also included Nicole Kidman, Robert Duvall, Randy Quaid, Cary Elwes, and others.

The Last Boy Scout - This was an under-rated action, buddy cop film starring Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans.

True Romance - Tony Scott brought Quentin Tarantino's script to life in a motion picture starring Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, and Dennis Hopper, before anyone knew who Tarantino was.

Crimson Tide - What a great movie! Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman star in one of the greatest submarine adventures of all time.

The Fan - Here's another fun little movie, starring Robert De Niro and Wesley Snipes.

Enemy of the State - Will Smith and Gene Hackman lead this conspiracy themed thriller.

Spy Game - Here's another thriller helmed by Scott, this time starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt.

Man on Fire - Denzel Washington plays a wronged assassin seeking vengeance.

Domino - Keira Knightley and Mickey Rourke star in this bounty hunter flick.

Deja Vu - Denzel Washington returns to work with Scott in this time travel adventure.

The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 - Although I loved the original film better, this remake starring Denzel Washington again and John Travolta, has some very nice moments.

Unstoppable - Tony Scott worked with Denzel Washington yet again as well as Chris Pine in what would be his final directorial big screen effort.

He was also producing the TV movie Killing Lincoln and the sequel to Prometheus with his brother Ridley Scott.  He will be missed. May he rest in peace.
