Rest in Peace, Maurice Sendak

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 | 7:37 PM

The passing of Maurice Sendak made me think about his most memorable work, the children's classic Where the Wild Things Are.

Its brief but engaging words, its unforgettable illustrations, still flicker in my mind all these years later. With all the accomplishments in his life, of all the fruits of his creativity, his legacy will be the brilliant images of a child escaping to the fantasy world of jubilant monsters and the ten sentences that tell that seemingly simple tale.

Back in 2009, I had the good fortune to see the Spike Jonze adaptation of the story before its official release. Click here to read my review on BlogCritics.com. It's an underrated masterpiece and if you still haven't seen it, hunt it down and revel in its near perfection.

Rest in peace, Mr. Sendak. May the wild rumpus never end.
