I'm currently designing my new personal site to promote my acting and writing gigs, and it's been a lot of fun. The only downside is finding the time to do it all.
I'm using Wix.com, which a lot of my actor friends have recommended. The free version gives you a lot of great templates, all customizable and very user-friendly. I've also had my own registered domain names for a while now. So very soon, hopefully, I'll have a destination site to promote all the great projects I'm working on and provide an easier way for people to see samples of my work and connect with me.
In addition to my own personal site (or vanity site as a couple of my friends will surely call it), I am also developing a Web site to publicize my mother-in-law's excellent watercolor paintings. That too is coming soon.
Even though I'm definitely not a Web designer by any stretch of the imagination, there are plenty of tools out there that give all of us the resources to create and share our ideas online in a professional manner. It's the beauty and wonder of the digital age.
If any of you have gone through this process yourselves, let me know. I'd love to hear about your experiences, both the joys and the frustrations.
