As I write this, people throughout the land are preparing their feasts -- friends will gather, food will be eaten, beverages will be consumed, throats will go hoarse from screaming. All for the "Big Game." Super Bowl XLVI is upon us! (That's Super Bowl 46 for the Roman Numeral challenged.)
Even those who don't like sports seem to embrace the media-hyped event as an occassion to throw a party (or attend one). There's much to see -- Kelly Clarkson singing the National Anthem, Madonna performing in the Half-Time Show, tons of expensive commercials that folks will be talking about all week. Oh, and a little football game to determine the NFL champion.
Some of you will be reading this on Monday after all the hoopla is over. New York Giant fans will either be cheering another Super Bowl victory or depressed over a bitter loss. (Reverse it for New England Patriots fans.) Either way, hopefully it will be a great battle.
Others couldn't care less about it. There are movies to see (the superhero found-footage flick Chronicle is number one this weekend, but the Hammer horror film The Woman in Black starring Daniel Radcliffe also seems to be doing well, both are exceeding box office projections). Television is also loaded with other content, counter programming the annual most watched TV event.
Whatever you end up doing, enjoy! I didn't expect Big Blue to make it this far, so win or lose, their season has exceeded expectations. It should be a fun game.
