Celebrating the Worst in Cinema

Written By Unknown on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 | 8:12 PM

Hollywood has finished patting itself on the back with its annual Academy Awards, so now it's times for the anti-Oscars, the Golden Raspberry Awards, better known as the Razzies, acknowledging the worst in film.  This year's nominees have been announced and Adam Sandler's horrendous Jack and Jill is in prime position to sweep almost all of the categories.

Rather than be insulted, some celebrities have actually embraced the satirical prize, showing a good sense of humor while accepting the seemingly dubious distinction of being the worst of the worst.  Those celebrities include director Paul Verhoeven, actors Tom Green, Halle Berry, Bill Cosby, Tom Selleck, Ben Affleck, Sandra Bullock, and David Eigenberg, and writers Brian Helgeland and J.D. Shapiro.

There are a lot of bad movies and bad actors out there, but it takes a certain something to be considered the ultimate worst. Here's a rundown of the top Razzies over the years, the ones that rose above the heaping pile of crap to be the crappiest of them all.

This year's Razzies will be awarded on April 1 (April Fool's Day), the perfect day for such an irreverent ceremony. I hope one day that the Golden Raspberry Awards are televised, so everyone can share in the glorious celebration of the worst that Hollywood has to offer. By recognizing the bad, the good looks even better.
