The Best Wedding Movies

Written By Unknown on Monday, June 27, 2011 | 8:24 PM

I spent the weekend celebrating my sister's wedding.  June is the nuptial leader, the one month out of the year when the most people tie the knot.  Movies about weddings are a growing genre.  Here are some that come to mind:

American Wedding - This was the third American Pie movie and Jim (Jason Biggs) and Michelle (Alyson Hannigan) finally get married.  I think it's an enjoyable chapter of the raunchy franchise, definitely better than the direct-to-video sequels that followed.

Father of the Bride - Based on the 1950 original starring Spenser Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor, directed by Vincente Minnelli, the new version starred Steve Martin held its own with a great supporting cast that included Diane Keaton, Kimberly Williams-P:aisley, Kieran Culkin, George Newbern, Martin Short, B.D. Wong, and others.

Four Weddings and a Funeral - This film had some really great moments, and some nice chemistry between Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell.

My Best Friend's Wedding - Featuring arguably one of Julia Roberts best performances, its aided by a stellar group of actors including Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz, Rupert Everett, Philip Bosco, and others.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding - A fun little movie that could, Nia Vardalos stunned the world when it became a box office hit.

Runaway Bride - Richard Gere, Julia Roberts, and helmer Garry Marshall tried to recapture their Pretty Woman magic and somewhat succeeded in this comedy.

Wedding Crashers - This was a really funny flick and Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are in top form.  Christopher Walken, Rachel McAdams, Isla Fisher, Jane Seymour, Rebecca De Mornay, and Bradley Cooper weren't too shabby either.

The Wedding Planner - Quick summary: good cast (Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey), interesting premise, dull execution.

The Wedding Singer - Of all the movies on this list, this is probably one of my all-time faves.  Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are perfect together, probably their best work.

Which ones did I leave out?  Let me know.
