Interactive Google Logo Honors Les Paul

Written By Unknown on Thursday, June 9, 2011 | 7:52 PM

Google has become the global leader in search engine tools because of its reliable results when people enter a key word or phrase, but also because of its minimalist interface -- nothing but a white background, the text box to enter search criteria, and of course the famous Google logo.  It is simple, clean, efficient, but at the same time pretty creative and clever.  Every so often to mark a milestone on a particular date, the Google logo is designed into what can only be described as a work of art reflecting whatever holiday or anniversary or special event occured that day in history.  Known as Google doodles, they are always original, always impressive.  Google outdid itself on Thursday, June 9, 2011.  To commemorate what would have been the 96th birthday of Les Paul, the legendary pioneer of the electric guitar, the Google doodle was an illustration of guitar strings -- the bonus was that it was interactive.  Users could move their cursor over the strings to produce tunes, as well as click a button to record their musical creations and play it back.

In the past, Google has used doodles to pay tribute to The Wizard of Oz, the first manned landing on the Moon, William Shakespeare, just to name a few.  The Les Paul interactive guitar illustration, however, was in a class of its own.  Too bad it will disappear at midnight.
