An Animated Version of the Dark Knight Returns

While many movie buffs are waiting for the live-action The Dark Knight Rises to hit theaters, many others are anticipating the upcoming cartoon version of Frank Miller's classic graphic novel, The Dark Knight Returns.  Actually, it will be released as not one but two animated features.

Many fans have long dreamed of an adaptation of the story that reveals the future of Batman. They will have to settle (for now at least) on the cartoon. It will be the first of DC Comics new Premiere Movie series, carrying the torch of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies that included:
  • Superman: Doomsday
  • Justice League: The New Frontier
  • Batman: Gotham Knight
  • Wonder Woman
  • Green Lantern: First Flight
  • Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
  • Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths
  • Batman: Under the Red Hood
  • Superman/Batman: Apocalypse
  • All-Star Superman
  • Green Lantern: Emerald Knights
  • Batman: Year One
  • Justice League: Doom
The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and Part 2 will feature the voice talents of Peter Weller (RoboCop) as Batman and Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Robin.

In addition to The Dark Knight Returns, the DC Comics Premiere Movie animated line-up has in the works Superman vs. The Elite and Flashpoint.  Except for the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy, DC has had a tough time making quality live-action movies based on their legendary superheroes. Maybe they should take a lesson or two from their animated division, which seems to be doing it right.
