On Friday night I attended a Sneak Preview of Center Stage Playhouse's 2012 season. The fact that they're having a season at all is somewhat of a miracle since they had to scramble to find a new space. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of this year's incredible Board of Directors and the aid of a number of loyal members who volunteered their time and energy over the summer, the Bronx's acclaimed off-off-Broadway theater company has found a new home and is ready to kick off yet another fantastic season of amazing productions.
New York State Assemblyman Michael R. Benedetto was on hand at the preview to officially introduce the new location, the beautiful auditorium of Mercy College at 1200 Waters Place in the Bronx. He spoke a few encouraging words of support to the enthusiastic community faithful who came out to see what Center Stage Playhouse has planned for the upcoming months.
After a light reception, the sneak peek began with select scenes from the plays that will be produced in 2012: a bold adaptation of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Jeffrey Hatcher, the charming comedy The Boys Next Door by Tom Griffen, and the imaginative This Is Where We Came In by Alan Ayckbourn.
It should definitely be an exciting season as Center Stage continues its over-40-year mission of bringing quality, affordable theater to the Bronx.
