Rooting for New York Actors

ABC's decision to cancel two of its popular soap operas not only saddened fans of those specific long-running shows, All My Children and One Life to Live, it also disheartened many supporters of New York-based actors, writers, and other television production staff.  When those serial shows go off the air, there will no longer be any soaps produced in the Big Apple.  Having already lost the original Law & Order, my fine city continues to lose local acting opportunities.

With the TV pilot season upon us, my fingers are crossed that some new television shows will start filming here.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, less than a dozen of the 83 broadcast pilots for potential new shows this year were filmed in New York.  Out of that batch, if a handful receive the greenlight and earn a spot on the networks' schedules next season to go into full production, New Yorkers will be grateful.  Those pilots include:

From ABC - (1) Georgetown, (2) Pan Am, and (3) Apartment 23

From CBS - (4) Person of Interest, (5) Ringer, (6) Rookies, (7) an untitled drama about a female NYPD detective who remembers everything, and (8) an untitled drama about a surgeon whose dead ex-wife starts giving him advice from the hereafter.

From the CW - None!  Boo!

From NBC - (9) Prime Suspect and (10) Smash

From FOX - (11) Weekends at Bellevue

We will find out which of the pilot episodes get picked up for full runs when the networks announce their new schedules in mid-May.  Even though they won't replace the daily work grind of the business of soap operas, I'm rooting for shows set in New York.
